we just installed the cam and we started up the truck and the oil pressure is very low.. under 275kpa and there is a clicking noise in the heads.. looks like the rockers are not getting enough lubrication or something.. what can we do?

Convert the KPa to PSI so someone can help.
LOL
Did you swap the oil pump too? Timing chain and gears and messed up the pick-up o-ring>? Did you put the cam retainer plate back on before the cover was reinstalled? Possibly mashed up the cam bearings when stabbing the cam? Forget to properly torque the rockers?
hurting the oring on the oil pickup tube will cause this issue.
There's no reason why the oring would be damaged just by changing the cam, unless you removed the pump or pickup tube for some reason.
You possibly damaged a cam bearing, or when the cam was installed, the cam bearing decided to spin or come out.
I've had this happen before: changed out the cam, get everything together with no issues and NO oil pressure! No reason to it. Ended up being the oil pump.
I'd change the oil pump first, then if you don't have pressure, the cam bearing is screwed.
I just pulled an engine last week that had a bad cam bearing, you'll have to pull the engine and take it to the machine shop for new ones.
yeah, the mechanic told me his first option is the oil pump, they will replace the stock for a mellins or mullins or something like that.. HOPEFULLY it is the oil pump, that way they don't have to pull out the engine AGAIN..
275kpa = 40psi
when I changed my cam i had no oil pressure when i started it ,it was the o ring on the oil pump ,famous if you pulled the pickup for any reason or timing gears /chain.replaced the o ring and since then ive been running 36-38 psi at idle .this motor was a brand new motor pulled from a o7 van ,and shouldnt have an oil issue but i can live with 36psi ,its fine as long as it raises when you throttle it.I know it should be more cus they sit around 40 usally.My esky sits at 40 since day 1 and thats got 160 k on it.a couple psi hasnt been worth tearing back down to me.O also ive boosted 15 psi on this same motor with 36/38 psi at idle.good luck ,i think youlle be fine if it stays that way in MY opinion.If it drops then start worrying.
Echo times 4 or 5 in here LOL.
In ways I agree with Ramsey since these gauges are not the most accurate in the world but I've also had these engines as well as Northstars with either no oil or no oil pressure and they're not that loud before they break.
yeah, the oil pressure goes down pretty much and when I throttle it, it goes up to almost 40psi.. they replaced the timing chain in my truck..
At idle my oil pressure is between 30-35psi but when I give it throttle it goes up immediately. From what I know...which is not much :ugh2:...you're good if you have 10psi per 1000 rpms. If it's under that then you have a serious problem that needs to be taken care of...like said already most likely oil pump
P.s. You should come up to the valley next week. Were going to hopefully get a few guys together and go to a little cruise/meet.
