newbie 4.8 to 6.0 conversion.. Please help?

I am new here and find this site awesome..I am planning the 4.8 to 6.0 conversion in my 2000 sierra..heres where i need help..I would like to make this swap as easy as possible...I heard 2000 motors have a crank snout issue..will mine? what is the best year motor to purchase for my swap(most horsepower?)..which will steer me away from the crank snout issue? I also have seen the ecm? will need to be "tuned"?(nelson performance?) will the "tune" need to be performed right away or will the motor run ok initally on the 4.8 ecu?any suggestions warmly welcomed...thanx..Jim:hyper2:

I've seen a 6L limped around for a while waiting on a tune. I would recommend against it but it can be done, using the stock 4.8L tune on a 6.0L swap. Your truck will have a short snout, only the early 6L engines had the long snout and old style transmisson. Get the newer engine or any LQ9 engine and you'll be good to go.

so i have the newer 4l80 trans? awesome...Is the 05 and later engine the preferred engine? On the exhaust side..manifolds a direct bolt up? or is custom exhaust required...does nelson performance sell reprogrammed ecu's?..is the performance in this swap considerably noticeable( dumb question, i know)..should i reuse my 4.8 intake set-up and swap the 6.0 injectors in(is that possible?) thanx for the help..I think this is the way I will go..the 6.0 looks like a pretty easy swap as long as the "tune" is performed?right? no other obstacles? this is my daily driver..so..can i do this in...lets say...a long weekend? thanx for all the help jim
