TROUBLE CODES!! DTC, CEL, SES call it what you may, it is a source of much heart and truck-ache. The more you see and fix, the more you see patterns. Guys like Gasguzzler see it all day everyday, and once you get a few years of that stuff in your face it really makes sense as they pull back specific instances from their mind and diagnose/fix and go on with it. What i imagine is like this:
You open the main DTC forum, and then the 'topics' are actually the trouble codes listed numerically(as members post them up) from say, the GENIII and up dtc's. Have the problem/symptoms, discussions, and then when it is solved, have that stickied or whatever back at the top of that trouble code's 'discussion'. Since no code is fixed ONE particular way members could vote on each different fix when they have the same problem/fix. As time goes by, each code would be profiled with the most common fix, but you can also see at a glance real-world fixes that aren't as easily come by. It would put all the pertinent information relating to each SPECIFIC code in one specific place. Right now, you search for P0XXX and get 23 different discussions, many pages long some with final fixes, some without, and it doesn't give you a clear idea what is going on with the code. With a DTC forum, you click the code you have(assuming it has been put up before you , otherwise you can pioneer that one :)) and right off the bat, you could see 4 different fixes, and that the #2 on the list has 14 votes for it cause 14 guys had that same code and fixed it the same way. Also, #1 and #3 on the fix list have fewer votes, but were valid fixes and should be checked against them as well before shotgunning parts on your truck. Have some sort of basic template first post for each code(possibly done by moderator after the first fix cause i dunno how you set up a voting deally), and it would be very popular i bet.
Yes/No/Maybe So??
