powerstroke...
Hey buds, I dont know if you remember that they stole my work truck like a month ago.. now Im trying to buy a used truck, one of my buddies is selling me a 2003 Ford diesel, powerstroke.. Its a 6.0L powerstroke, but from what I know, there are some 7.3L powerstroke too.. So, I need you guys advise, what can you tell me about those 6.0L? or whats the difference betwen them? I need it to check on the ranchs that I hunt in mexico..
Is there some issues with those FX4 that you know of that I need to double check before I buy it?
Thanks!

on the 7.3 mainly look for oil leaks in the valley pan around the turbo. These are known for leaking around the frt oil pump cover as well as the oil lines. Not hard to fix though but can be a good bargaining point. We had alot of problems with the 6.0s blowing heads gaskets. I would get a 7.3 cause its a little cheaper to maintain and easier to mod later on if you need to.

lot of difference in power? how can I check the heads gaskets on this 6.0??
Thanks!!

DO NOT GET A 2003 Powerstroke!!! That was the first year for the 6.0L and they had HELLA problems. Hell, any year of 6.0L was chit. I would go with a 7.3L Powerstroke (99-02) if you have to go with a Ford diesel. If you want a diesel, go with a Cummins 24valve (99-02)---or get the HO Cummins (01-03), available with the NV-5600 (6-speed) tranny. Or get a Duramax...and year motor is good.

wow, I guess I need to keep looking for some other trucks... I rode it, and it felt great.. but you never know.. thats why I wanted to ask you guys.. Thanks again!

2003 6.0 PS is to be avoided at all costs....unless you like to replace rods, cranks, injectors, and turbos.
LOL
-
nope, I dont like to replace any of those.. wich way should I go? what should I look for? tell me of a great diesel truck... any year before 2004...
-
Bottom line--NO 6.0L Powerstrokes. A 99-02 7.3L is aight, but I would pick an 03-09 Cummins or any year Duramax.

If you go DMax, you might as well look at the 04+ 2 engine. The 01-04.5 1 engine had injector problems....but most have been updated by now.

24 valve cummins hands down
or if you dont mind driving an older truck (mid 90's) the 12 valve cummins is great too
