Got a brand new crate motor cam coming with hopefully 198/209 .500/.500 119.5 specs and want to switch to 24 lb. injectors going into a '99 5.3 L. Question is will I see a noticeable improvement from stock before and after tune and any suggestions on tune (raise rev etc.)....Zed

What about with 28 lb injectors before tune? Any drivability issues? :help:

The stock injectors on the '99 are 19lb's. If you install the 28's your truck is going to run pig rich, may not even idle, plus you'll foul your plugs.
The 99's have room for a lot of improvement in the pcm, so yes, you'll see a nice improvement with a cam and tune.

Oh yeah, 99s are quite slow stock. PCM sucks, they have False Knock a lot, general driveline problems. My old one SUCKED.
The cam will help, but I'd at least get the GM updates on the PCM (there's a TON of them) and get a tune with those parts.

So should I even go with the 24 lb injectors before the tune or wait? Also anyone know where I can get the parts necessary to do a cam swap... like a kit or something(gaskets, new crank bolt, etc.), never tore into an engine before especially not a LS1 motor and need all the help I can get. Don't need to mess up as this is only way to get to work. Dad is an old school mechanic like '90 model and under was going to see if I can knock this out over a weekend....Zed
