Spider gears FUBAR'd
Just a quick rant. I was in the process of changing out my rear seals and bearings today. All was going well until I took off the rear diff cover and noticed a donut of metal chunks and shavings stuck the the magnet on my cover. F*($ I was pissed beyond all. This is the second time my spider gears have decided to eat themselves. Ended up having to buy a set that was extremely over priced from the dealer. Yeah yeah, I know shouldn't have bought them from them, but I needed them ASAP cause I'm goin TDY on the 18th and I'm drivin. For $311 I shoulda gotten a blow J with the set. I'll post pics tomorrow to show ya'll how jacked they are.

For that amount of coin, you could have bought a trutrac.

I was already plannin on getting a locker of some type, but this was a time crunch deal. O'Reilly was only gonna charge 166+shipping, but they weren't gonna get to the store till the 16th and I gotta be on the road on the 18th. I'm just gonna replace the rear with a 14 bolt when I do the engine swap. I'm just really pissed that this is the second time this BS has happened. Last time was in 2002. I tore them up so bad that time that my truck wouldn't move.
-
Wow. Damn right they should have come with a blow job!!! That is crazy. Good luck with the install and I hope you can get them in before you gotta leave. Make sure to get a few good heat cycles in before you go out and run them for a long time on your drive out for TDY. How far are you driving?

It's gear kit 19178581 and comes with all 4 (2 side gears, 2 pinion gears) for $291.56 list + tax. With N20 I'm surprised it lasted since 2002.

K, Got'em done. No rear end noise and I've gotten a few heat cycles in. I don't think I've even ran any N2O through it since 2003. My line got burnt through and I haven't had any real need to replace it since there aren't any places to refill my bottle up here. This place sucks. (Grand Forks ND) No speed shops to speak of. One guy does engine work on dirt track cars, but that's it.

Find you a welding supply shop and have them get you the 56 lb bottle. You can fill it with nitrous yourself at home a lot cheaper and thats 5-1/2 fills for one low price. :thumb: Then you can go ruin those new spiders.
-
Good point. I should just keep the 56lb bottle mounted in the back or my truck:hyper2:. Spray 1200 hp and just totally blow my engine. Then get a new one that'll handle a 1200 shot

You'd get pretty good traction since they weigh about 200 lbs.

Just don't get in an accident.
