Lance or Red or anyone else...Why is my fuel pump burning out fuel pump relay after fuel pump relay? Installed a new fuel pump already. No go. Driving down the road & just quits. Put in a new relay & it starts right up. Also, now it won't let me give it any gas without affecting the relay. If I just putt around & don't give it alot of gas, it runs fine. Till I give it the gas to take off fast. Any ideas? Thanks
Too much resistance in the wire going from the battery source to the pump? A bad ground? I'd start by installing a Racetronix Hotwire kit for the fuel pump first if you haven't already done that.
What relay/fuse box are you using, the stock 96? I'm asking this for a reason because the pins come loose after the first time they get hot melting the fuse box and it's all over. If so I'd recommend pulling that relay out completly and mount an external relay that slides into the extrenal clips on the stock fuse box. I burnt mine up with a bad fuel pump and went to the external relay and haven't had an issue since.
BTW, the relay pigtail # is Delco PT1205 and the relay is Delco 15-8719. You have clips all around the parameter of the factory fuse box under the hood and this pigtail will clip into any of them. Clip the wires under the fuse box and solder or crimp them onto the pigtail so it bypasses the factory fuse box all together.
