New Project...
Ok... here i go..
a couple of friends are getting some 85-90 chevy pickup trucks 4wd and putting some 5.3's and 6.0's on them... then they change the Fuel injection sys and put carbs on their trucks, cams, heads, and all those items, and we all go the weekends to sand race 1/8 of mile...
Now.. I want to buy a 1990 Chevy blazer K-5 (really like that body style), get a 6.0L engine and get it ready to kick some ass!!
1.- Why do they change the FI on they trucks and put carbs on them?
2.- They all use 35" tires or something around that, what ratio should I use and what kind of posi should I get for it? front and rear?..
3.- They claim to do around 500hp plus 250 of NOS... Can I make more power than that with cam, heads, NOS, a NICE TUNE, and all the upgrades i need to get that thing going?.. (N/A)
4.- Would it be better to keep FI or switching to carbs?
5.- What kind of engine should i get? LQ9 or what? what trucks have that kind of engines?
I really appreciate you guys help..
Sorry for such a long thread.. i have lots of questions.. just getting started with a new project..

I wouldn't swap out the fuel injection for a carb, even though its supposed to gain some horses by doing so, I would keep the fuel injection so you can have Allen tune it to perfection. And you say you want to run it N/A so I would go for the LQ9 which is the higher compression 6.0 that is found in ss trucks and vho's. 345 hp and 380 tq.

Cadillacs and Denalis too, I believe.
-
I forgot about those LOL, yeah what he said.
-
I forget the VHO or Denali sometimes myself. Don't feel bad.

So, should i stay with FI? can i still make that kind of power without having F/I??
how many horses can the carb system add? i mean.. intead of FI? is it cheaper? or why in the world would they do that? what i thought is, getting all the parts for the engine, and get Allen to have the PCM tuned.. Im really happy with my tune.. can he still make a tune for a REALLY HIGH PERFORMANCE CAM AND HEADS?? cause i want this truck just for race..

The carb swap should add 50 or so hp at the motor, hotrod magazine had an article about it a while back, and since your going to carb it you would need an ignition box of some type edlebrock, msd, gmpp to control the coils, the fuel delivery would be tuned by you and timing tuned by swapping out timing chips.

I bought a LQ9 for my 72 chevelle and am in the rebuilding stage, I was considering to throw a carb on it but even then the cost to upgrade the fuel system and all the other costs were to much, I decided to just rebuild it and put it in my truck in a couple of months since it would be just a straight swap. For your build you would need a modified harness, the intake and ignition control box you wouldn't need a PCM if your going to run a carb because the ignition controller picks up signal from the cam and crank sensors.

I thought it was better to stick with Fuel Injection.. just because I can see all of my friends having a hard time with the calibration of all of their stuff...
