When you port the intake side of the head I was told it was best to leave it alittle rough because it aided in mixing the air with the fuel. Is there any truth to this or should I go ahead and clean it up?

that's what I've heard, also. Its supposed to help make the air/fuel mixture tumble.
Cool that just makes the job easier. So do you suggest doing anything to the intake side or just clean it real well and leave it alone?

No prob. Been there done that as they say. I learned the hard way long ago when there weren't many people to ask questions. My bank account can attest to the expense of the school of hard knocks.
I'd just clean it up, blend the area under the valves seats to the seats so there isn't a disruption in flow. The flat section around the valve guide inside the intake runner, I like to cut the sides down a little. Make a kind of vertical seperater to get the air to flow around the guide. Don't go too crazy. The main thing is to just blend the seat area. You can cause more disruption of airflow than good if you're not careful. Leave the serious porting to the professionals that know exactly what to do.
Yeah I was'nt going to get too crazy in there just clean up the casting marks and such when I get it cleaned up and get to looking at it Ill decide how far Ill go. Now the exaust side, polish to a mirror finish or not?
naw, just clean them up, grind under the seats and call it good. I would call around to local shops and see if you can find a shop that can do the cleanup and hand blending for you. You could even call WCCH, TSP, Patriot or other performance companies to do a stage 1 or 2 port job for you so you'll have it out of the way. Why do it twice when you can have it done right the first time?
you do need to leave it rough because if you polish it the fuel will pool up on the sides and run down to the valve an drip fuel into the cylinder
To reiterate...leave intake side slightly rough, but clean up the exhaust.
Yeah, Greg is da master when it comes to this stuff. I have tried and tried, but I haven't found a bad piece of advice yet. I am still searching...so watch what you say mister!
