Thanks guy I have been searching but its hard do you know of any place I can go in Iraq for help. Searching online brought me here
are you looking for a modded 4.8/5.3? if so the 5 speed whoud be able to handle it although the gear ratio and throw of the shift woulg suck donkey balls. make sure you upgrade the clutch. the 5 speed would probably handle a stock 6.0 for awhile too. as to where to find one in Iraq... i dunno. when i was there back in 02-03 i wasn't able to check out the truck scene.
Thank god for technology huh. This is round 3 for myself where were you at 02-03. Anyway Not really modded just a strong v8. I really don't know a lot about it which engine is better. And basically easier and for the money thanks bud.
Objective Rams and Balad. i take it you're wanting to do all of this when you get back? where you from? we could probably get you hooked up with a really good shop "close" to where you're based. what are you going to using the truck for? that will help us answer most of your questions. most of the guys on here are more than willing to help with their knowledge and even a little labor in most cases.
Fort Riley KS, Coming home in about a Month for R&R and for good close to first of the year. Its my everyday driver. The 4.3 is getting about 15 mpg and 17 highway. I have done cosmetic and now its time to give the truck some balls. I want a strong motor 250 to 300 horses. and try to maintain 15 to 20 mpg.
everything is taken care of plus re-enlistment is nice but budget is 4 grand and plenty of time just looking for the right combination and buying parts slowly just want to make sure I have everything I need before i start don't want the truck down for to long. Oh by the way you should see balad now that place looks like hollywood its crazy plus the civilian at the pool WOW. Come a long way
Story first:
when i rolled into Balad the dust was still settling from out "sisters" in the Air Force and i swear i was probably the 4th-5th HMMWV to roll in there. i've heard it's not too bad of a gig now.
Advice:
Get a low mileage 5.3 with a mild cam, good intake and exhaust. your 5 speed should work fine behind it as long as you beef up the clutch. you could always wait for a good deal on a LS1/6 speed combo and have everything done for under 4g's. are you going to do a lot of research and do it yourself at the hobby shop or going to have someone do the swap for you?
