heater core fix?!?!
well since no one really knew how to help, i guess im the first with this problem and i dont have time to sit in the parking lot and change fittings all day and such, i went to menards and got this nice brass valve for 6.99 and two hose clamps for 2.59 and went to work for a total of about 2 minutes and put this inline on the intake hose for the heater core to stop the flow, so my noise would go away. Sure enough finally worked, no heat, but its summer ill fix it in fall when i have more time to work on it.

just curious , what noise was it making?
Was your rad. low of water?
If it was dripping --and you could hear it you need a different muffler!

i had the coolant flushed in the truck by the dealer in december, it was like negative 40 with windchill and my heat was sucking so i had it flushed heat came back, but then the noise started.
at about 1800 it starts to "chirp" like a bird, then after that up to about 2500 it squeals. I cant hear it over the magnaflow after that point. But its super annoying and it was definately coming from the heater core, because now that there is no flow its nice and quiet in there.
I was going to change the fittings but im so busy that this was the simplest and fastest fix for now. im living with a gm tech next year so he said we can take the thing apart one weekend and really dig into it, im going to put in a cam in mid july with some headers and ill flush the coolant system again and replace all the coolant, but its the strangest noise ever.
so after it made the noise back in feburary i got sick of it and had them backflush the heater core, and all i got was more heat and the answer " we think you need a new heater core, thats about a 1000 dollars" well screw that. if its that bad ill do that part my self, or drive with half heat.

Thanks for the reply.
That is a different problem ---the noise I mean. It must still be plugged up. Radiator chemical flushes are hard on the rubber hoses if left in too long. If you could isolate the heater core and put in some chemical flush and let it soak for awhile it might clean it out .A radiator shop might know of the right stuff to use. You have that 1/2 done allready .
Have you every mixed different types of coolant? They don't get along.
Yup cold weather is fun---stuff to live in.
I know its a pain to RR a heater core.Easier to pull an engine.
Good luck!
Please read disclaimer. :cowl:
Time for some more :coffee:

nope never mixed the coolants at all, im thinking its still really plugged up, so when i take the radiator off to do the cam swap and such, ill flush that thing out really good. im sure all kinds of stuff will come out.
thanks
