Gen IV 5.3 Vortec in 1997 Tahoe motor mount questions

Hi there,
I just removed my old 350 Vortec and I am on the way to give the Gen IV engine a new home. As it is an '07 engine with the cylinder deactivation setup I read that those types of engine use special mounts to cut down the vibrations which happen when changing the active No. of cylinders or when in V4 mode.
The traditional way to mount those engines is an adapter which converts the new 4 bolt style to the older 3 bolt style and also takes care of the position. These won't work with the new style mounts on the Gen IV engines. Also the older style mounts where angled like the V of the engine. The new style is just vice versa. Pls don't start suggesting to deactivate the active fuel management. I try to have the best milage possible. I live in Germany and our gas is 1,57€ a litre ( about 9.12USD for a gallon!!)

Any ideas? Did anyone a GenIV conversion and kept the active fuel management??

It's tough to visualize how it could be different with that heat shield over the mount. Underneath that shield, does the removable mount that you pictured attach to the engine with the rectangular pattern of four bolts? It looks very similar to the gen III from what i can see in the pictures thus far. Do they stick out further maybe?

r6z4o6, The Gen IV AFM engines more than likely use ANC motor mounts which have a main liquid chamber, an air chamber, rubber and a diaphragm in the mount. The liquid is usually in the top of the mount with the diaphragm and the air chamber and rubber below to dampen vibration. I can't tell either with the heat shield in the way but GM does offer a different motor mount part number for engines equipped with AFM. This is something I haven't concidered but Harold has a legit concern.

Harold, maybe you could have someone build you a set of oil filled motor mounts like the 97 style if in fact that's what you have. I've researched and most of your aftermarket oil filled mounts are for import vehicles. You might have to modify the factory mount somehow.

I was looking for a pic of a 2007 / 08 Tahoe / Suburban frame. I think it could be possible to modify the old motor mount platforms on the frame rails ( angled like the V of the engine.. 'hope you know what I mean.. :-)) to be angled in the other direction. I have to check if the total height with engine in place is still ok. If yes, I could just use the '07 AFM mounts already on the engine. Drawback is there's not much room to modify the original platforms, their lower parts act as mounting points for the front IFS.. but there is still a little room....

I think we all know that the below way would be possible if the mounting area on the GEN IV block is still the same as on the GEN III Block... if it wasn't that AFM.

I think it will work that way for you. If those are S&P plates they are pretty thick.

here is another pic, with a `07 motor mount on a '07 Suburban. I still see a way to use the AFM mounts when the '97 frame mounting area is converted...

just in case I have to step back, has anybody a drawing of the adaptor plates to do it the Gen III way

Here ya go, you can shift the bolts if you want to offset the motor. This is what I used to build my plates out of stainless.

or you can just custom make an addpater plate that will fit on the motor mounts in ur truck right now..
