I went to the body shop yesterday that I will be getting my hail damage repaired at and gave them the estimate my insurance company gave me. They took it back and checked it under uv light and said that I will need a new hood, mine is shot. He told me they use keystone for aftermarket hoods. I have heard of them and they suposedly are good hoods. I told them I want a cowel hood and asked them about Goodmark hoods. They said that I would probably have to pay the difference between the stock looking hood and the cowel. Do y'all think a cowel would cost more than an aftermarket stock replacement hood. Sorry if this is confusing hard to explain in writting.

I do believe goodmarks are 450 for a cowl hood. Your stock hood is probably 350-400..

Stylin sells them for $399, and I think I have seen them for as little as $379. Either way it has to be aftermarket, whether its a cowel or stock looking.

Ask and research. You may can find the hood you want and have them paint it for real close to the price quoted. Find out what the stock hood cost and ask them what would happen if you bring them the hood. If the hood is damaged how about the roof? If I was real tall I might could see the dents. I know I seen them before can not recall where but I will post Monday. Most of my stuff is done at work.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade to a cowl hood and just pay the difference.

The guy didn't say to much about the roof, I guess you can't replace the roof. I will check around, the original quote from insurance to fix the hood alone was aprox. $400. I saw a place on the internet that was selling stock hoods for aprox. 140, if the difference is going to be $250 I can't afford that right now.

What about those paintless dent repair places? I've know some used car dealers who used them and the cars came out great. Just a thought.

if the insurance company qouted you $400. then I figure you'll be out maybe $50-$75. that's considering that the hood alone will cost you ~$375, then figure in painting it should be $75-$100. Unless you're running real tight money wise, now is the perfect time to get the hood. When else are you going to be able to get a $400 discount on a hood?

My insurance said it could be done paintless dent repair, but that was just them looking at it in normal light. I took it to the body shop I use, he does do paintless dent repair which is what he would have prefered to do, but after looking at the hood under UV light he said there were way too many dents for that, it would be cheaper to replace the hood. Thanks for all the info, I guess I will just need to sit down with the body guy and run the numbers.
