LS6 cam weding present...and maybe a keychain for his wife

I have a friend of mine that has a club cab 2wd with a 5.3 in it that has been eye balling an LS6 cam. He just hasn't had the time to look into it very much, or the money to just do it after the ring that he bought. I was thinkin about buying him an LS6 cam for a wedding present...his wife is cool as hell and said that was a PERFECT gift....that...and how many toasters can you possibly use in one house?
My only issue is that the truck is registered here in California. I was wondering if anyone has passed smog with an LS6 cam (with tuning obviously). The cam and springs are pretty cheap from scoggin dickey, I just wanted to ask you guys about a few things. I have to call him and ask but I'm pretty sure that the truck is a 2004 or 2005. Do the LS6 cams have the same base circle as the 5.3 truck motors? The LSA is pretty wide, but I just want to make sure that he wont have any problems at the sniffer here in California. One last question...will an LS6 cam kill all of the truck's bottom end for towing without a higher stalling converter? He will never tow anything bigger than 2 or 3 quads (no toy hauler, open trailer)...or his inlaw's little ski boat....and they tow it with a SIX CYLINDER mid 90's 1500 (truck has 60,000 actual miles on it).....so I think he will be alright...ha ha...I just want to be sure....

An LS6 cam is nothing too crazy for the motor. It will swap in, no problems. Just make sure he gets the upgraded springs and pushrods. You might wanna have him get a custom tune done as well. Have the tuner know it is a CA truck and WILL be needing to pass smog.
