OK I have a 04 scsb 5.3, an as of now I am only running 1 flowmaster dumped. But I am about to add some headers soon. An so I was wondering, after I install the headers, what kind of exhaust setup should I run?
-1. Just connect the header into the factory Y pipe an continue to run the single flowmaster? (Witch I was told would give me the best performance an torque.)
-2. Or get a true dual straight out of each header with 2 flowmasters? ( I was told that I would lose to much back preasure an lose torque an power.)
So what is the full truth on this situation? An does anyone know if the X-pipe or H-pipe really works on are truck?(01Thunder, thout you might know) :help: If so, how do I run it?

I would say that i would hook up the headers to the y pipe and just run a single.
It will sound good and give you the right amount of back pressure.

Your PCM will freak out with true duals. Some of the backpressure is required for proper feedback. If you go with true duals be sure you have an x-crossover to fool the PCM into thinking the exhuast is going into a single exhaust. Though you have 2 O2 sensors before and after the cats the PCM expects all the spent gases to mingle at one point and uses the opposite exhuast pulses to draw the gases out.

Well I didnt throw any codes when I put my true duals in but I did notice some torque loss down low.
these 4.8L dont have as much torque as your 5.3L down lowq, but I was able to make up for that in other areas:)
It all depends on what you want to do.
if you had an extended cab, I would most deffinatly say go with the single exhaust. but with a single cab I say go with the true duals.
the x-pipe will give you some of the bottom end back. I have mine right before the mufflers.
I will post a pic later :thumb:

I ran true duals all the way back to a Flowmaster muffler with two 2.25 in and two 2.25 outlets. It saved the use of a xpipe and the weight of 2 mufflers. Sounds good too. The muffler is only 89.95 to the door from Jegs or Summit, can't remember which. Local suppliers wanted 129 to 189.

you should try a dynomax bullet muffler

I have heard a NBS 5.3 with true duals all the way out throu 2 flowmasters. But if I put a true dual plus a X-pipe or H-pipe will it sound diffrent (then regular dual) or just give me more back pressure?

hmmm mine sounds pretty loud when I get on it. and is nice and mellow just driving around, but Im also in the cab and not riding right next to it

when you run an x pipe you in all practicality have run it into a two into one but then into dual outs. Years of research has been done that proves the xpipe will give you better performance than truly isolated duals.
