I currently have a 2002 Silverado 1500. I am wondering, though, what type of MPG a, say 2002 2500 diesel would get with a proper tune. I have heard something on the order of 30 MPG.
Is this info accurate?

NO, the first gen LB7 Duramax 2001-2004 will get the better milage of all the rest, but it is a good 21-22 is what to expect. My best is a 20.95 on a tank, with a STOCK tune, if you put anything else in there, the power is soooo addictive, the milage will suffer!
Unless you can control the right foot that is.
So folks have tried to convince me they were getting 27, but I still call BS to this day, and some say 24, alittle more believable, but not totally to me.....just me that is. I believe they were going off of the DIC and not hand calculating, and when a tune is thrown in, the DIC will be off nearly all the time.
Well, looks like the Silverado's days are numbered. I can't afford the gas for this thing. Costing ~$500 a month at today's prices.
Milage that is posted on window stickers is done via a car treadmill with no wind resistance.
There are mileage tunes out that have seen 27mpg for the LB7, but with the higher price for diesel, and higher maintenance cost its hard to justify. Cost me $114 to fill up last night....
Which tune is that?
Have you got that tune?
A good handheld tuner has a few different types of tunes. A Economy, Tow, and Performance. The Economy tune usually yields something close to 25-27 mpg, depending on how deep you foot is stuck in it.
I have tried 3, and best I could do was 21.
I am a regular visitor on the Diesel Place and I can assure you that some claim 24 which is still hard to believe, but more plausable than 27.
EFI Live is the best tune going IMO for the duramax, and of course the LB7 is the better of the milage engines, but to say getting 27 is common........Still hard for me to believe.
if you r on diesel place have you ever talk to ripmf666 he has a big turbo lbz and we have got as hight as 22 to 24 but he cant keep his foot out of it and with 600 horses i cant say i blame him and that is corrected
