Low oil Pressure at Idle
After doing my 6.0 swap everything seems to be running good, but when I crank the truck and it sits at idle when cold I am only seeing around 15 PSI. Using an electrical autometer, sender is threaded into the oil cooler block off plate. But when I rev it, it will come close to 50, then back down well below 25 at idle. Think it is the accuracy of the guage or should I be worried? Thanks for any help.

Did you change oil and put on a good quality filter? What weight of oil and brand of filter?

When I first fired it up I used 10 40 valvoline, ran it for two weeks, drained it and put in 5w 30 Mobil 1 in it with the new short AC delco filter. The motor sat a while so I wanted to "clean" it out with the cheap oil before I put in synthetic.

I used to have a 5.7 that did that and I ran that thing for close to 300,000 before I got rid of it and it was still doing that when I traded it off. I have never owned a 6.0 but i wouldnt think its gauge accuracy if it comes up to 50 when you gas on it.

The stock oil plug is not being used. It was cut out of the harness

The idle is only around 600-700, but I drove it around a little just now, and it doesnt seem to wannna get very much over 25 PSI. Even at WOT it just gets close to 50. At times when I would stop at a red light it would dip down close to 0, maybe like 5 or so. Anything I should I check?

Have you tried the sender in another place, like where the stock one goes? I'm not sure if it would make any difference, but it's worth a shot. Might also try a manual pressure gauge to make sure it's not an electrical problem with the gauge.
O-ring would be the most common and easy problem, as Quik stated. That's a good first step....replace it. They are cheap. You can buy a good stock replacement Melling oil pump for under $100 too, if you want to change that while you're in there. Hopefully that will fix it...if not, it's a more serious problem.

I will try a mechanical guage first and see. then I will keep trying the things listed, thanks

I assume everyone is refering to the oil pump o ring? If so is the best article on replacing it, the one on LS1howto? Thanks guys.

Well, I got a mechanical guage, and really saw no difference in pressure. Changed back to 10-30 and only seeing 15 at idle, and when reving it, im seeing close to 50, at like 5k rpm. I am guessing this is still too low?
