how do i fix a miss?

ok, i was coming home from school friday after school, and i noticed my truck was backfiring alot more than normal, it never did this before. then all of a sudden i heard a loud pop and my spark plug shot out of my left rear cylinder, and it was loud cuz compression was shooting out. Then i got home and seen the white part of the plug shot out but the bolt was still in. So me and my dad bought all new plugs and plug wores, and it still has a miss. will a new rotor cao and distributpor button fix this? or what will?

all help appreciated.

yep.

That'd be my next guess. The timing on my old 86 would always need adjusting. It just wouldn't stay in the same spot (it never got to the point of backfiring). Try playing with the timing by turning the distributor slightly. I forgot which way retards or advances. Just remember where it was originally in case this doesn't help. If adjusting the timing doesn't fix it, maybe it's time for a new distributor???? Does the distributor feel loose at all?

no, ppl say its just a rotor cap and distributor button misfire type deal. im not sure tho.

What does the cap and rotor look like. Is the brass inside of it all black and worn looking? Those plugs must have gotten pretty hot for one to fall apart like that.

How many miles does your truck have on it? It might be a worn out timing chain and sprockets. My son has an 85 model and it did something similiar to what you are talking about. The orginal cam sprocket has nylon teeth and they are bad to shuck off after several miles so check your timing and twist your crank shaft back and forth while watching your rotor to see how much slack you have.
