just some more info it will be yellow z06 springs, and the cam is 209/198 @ .500/.500 with a 115.5 lsa and stock ls1 rods. i dont nkow shiit about cams so even if you can give me a link to a crash course in cams or quickly explain what these numbers mean it would be great. i know its duration of exhaust and intake but other then that its all durrr da durrrrr
Well, first, the stock ratio of GEN III motors is 1.7, so 1.65's will just hurt. Also, there is no difference in LS1 push rods and your 4.8's. In my opinion, its a waste of time to put the LS1 cam in. Yes there will be a slight increase in power, but very little. Get yourself an LS6 cam to go with those springs and you will love it.
The first numbers are duration or how long the valve stays open; second is valve lift. 115 is the lobe separation angle.
The combination of duration and LSA determines how smooth the idle is and effects peak power and where in the rpm range peak power is.
You are limited to the size cam you do by the rest of your combo. IMO, any bigger than an LS6 cam and you need to do a stall too or you will loose low end performance.
