I hooked the factory camaro p/s pump up with the factory truck lines. Just had to bend 1 line and it worked. But it acted like a bad pump. Loud noises and very little power steering. So I changed the pump out with another salvage yard piece and it has the same problem. Am I missing something here?
maybe a dumb question, but did you purge the pump of air?
I think I'm having the same problem. How do you purge the line?
as far as I've been told, you jack the front end up so the tires are off of the ground, run the engine and turn the steering wheel lock to lock while adding ps fluid as needed.
Best way I find to bleed the air from the pump is lift the front end with the engine off roll the steering back and forth a couple of times. Top it up as needed then start the truck if the noise is still there. Loud growling/whinning noise. Hopefully this helps.
I have done all that with both pumps. Its time to try a third pump.
could the bend be to much of a bend
i change a lot power steering pumps at the shop and they all howl when you first first start them up. the best thing i have found is to turn the wheel lock to lock 20 to 30 times and top off the fluid then just walk away with it running for 20 minutes. it just take a long time to get the air out of the system. hope this helps!
