Well my old 03 blue truck is still sitting at my house not moving with a stall shift kit and a nelson tune lol....And My sister is too busy to come and pick it up because its going to be hers when she picks it up in a few weeks...I wanna get that damn stall outta there and swap it into my GMC..How hard and long of a process would that be?! cuz I payed a guy last time to install the shift kit and stall
I heard its kinda easy. some places charge $200 in labor.
if it is a 4 wheel drive you have to remove the front and rear drive shafts and the transfer case. remove your transmission bolts and your starter ( so you can remove the torque converter bolts). undo your transmission lines and cable and pull your transmission back to remove your converter.
Swapping converters is fairly simple. As mentioned, it's more involved on a 4wd for obvious reasons, but it's otherwise a cakewalk(my experience is with my 2wd:tvhaha:). Drop exhaust out of the way, drop driveshaft(s) and crossmember. Disconnect shifter cable, fluid lines, and wiring. Remove the starter to get the converter bolts(rotate flexplate through inspection hole), remove all bellhousing bolts. I get the top-center bellhousing bolt from above and let the trans droop until the oil pan rests against the K-member, then remove the rest from underneath. Careful of fuel lines, wiring, dipstick tube, and the vent tube on top of the trans. If your doing it in the driveway, keep the floorjack under the trans, you'll probably go up and down a couple times. It's a big jump at first. but you'll have it back together before you know it.
I'm not sure if you have to remove the T-case or not on 4wd.
I would expect it to take a full sunday, or two evenings, for each truck. If you have to drop the factory y-pipe for the first time on your 06, that will suck, but being so new it should come out fairly easy. Expect to get dirty.

plan on about 2 hours to get trans loose and back. Another 2 hours to get put back together. I would just leave the shift kit in.
expect to pay about 8 shop hours to someone to swap out two converters. Its not a feat for the faint of heart.
a good idea is to use some all thread in the in the side bolt holes of the bell housing and just slide it back easier to get it back on that way too.
Dude, it would take you and a friend all weekend. Not trying to be a jerk, it's just that you will be doing one for the first time and it always takes longer. But it would be best if you did stretch it out over the whole weekend so you can take your time and do it right. Keep a laptop out there and be logged on so you can ask questions as you go on the shoutbox--or just call one of us who has done it before....
