gotta run orange these days. I use the premix 5050 stuff. If your gonna change it, you should get your whole system flushed. You can do it yourself with a kit from wal mart or get a shop to do it
ok well....mines green...will that make the coolant temp sensor go out?
mixing green and orange can cause it to gel I've been told. Just my opinion, but I would just have one in there.
yeah you dont want to mix the gm dexcool and regular ole green coolant, the results are very bad.
When i installed my 05+ OEm efans and the bigger 34" radiator i flushed out all the old coolant, backflushed the heater core, and used the yellow prestone stuff. I bought 3 gallons, added one gallon straight up, then a gallon of straight water, then take the other gallons and make a 50/50 mix in each, and use that to top off the system, that way it stays close to 50/50 total mix.
+1 on David.
Yeah, I would only trust DexCool. And you CAN mix the two, but good luck with the coolant working properly. There now is green coolant that you can mix with either type--but I still would still go get the Prestone Coolant Flush kit and Dexcool. Flush your stuff out completely--not just the radiator, but the lines and block too. And replace with only Dexcool.
i would stay sway from the dexcool, GM doesnt even use it anymore, they use the yellow prestone stuff i believe. There has been lots and lots of post about the dexcool going bad and causing intake gaskets and headgasket problems on the older vortec engines, i know this isnt as much of a problem with the LSx engines, but dexcool is junk IMO.
Either way you go, if you have the original dexcool and reg ole green stuff in there, def need to get it completely flushed out, might be worth it to go to a shop and have them hook up the flush machine to it, around here its about 60-70 bucks and includes the coolant.
