new here, new project
Hey all, I'm new here and getting ready to start a new project. I just picked up a 5.3 and want to rebuild it. I'm looking for pretty much stock, maybe a few things here and there (a cam, intake,etc.).
The motor I got I don't think comes with any wire harness, accessories, or intake, so I will need all of these. I should have the motor by the end of the week so I will know more about this then.
My ultimate goal is to put the motor in an older chevy truck (anything from 67-87). I know nelson performance makes a harness and they can do a tune too?
I've also got a 4L80E that came out of a 98 one ton. I don't really know much about it, but it sat outside for about 3 years and has been in storage for about 3 years since then, it was supposedly rebuilt right before my friend got it. I know it was behind a 350 but I think it was a 4wd drive truck. So would it be practical to use in this application or should I try to find a 4L60E?
I want to try to do all of this for as cheap as possible and any and all used parts I find I would be willing to use so if anyone has a lead on anything I would appreciate the heads up.
I appreciate any input on any of this and I'm sure I will have many, many more questions.
Thanks,
carson

Well, first, welcome. Second, forget the plan you have going now and buy a complete drop out with 2wd transmission, either 60e or 80e, doesn't matter which. Buying what is missing is going to kill your budget. Be sure the seller gives you some kind of warranty and use it as-is.

well I already got the motor I just don't have it in hand yet. And I'm in no hurry to get any of this done, so I can be patient waiting on deals on parts.

I got the motor home on Saturday, and it is more complete than I had thought it was going to be. It has the everything but the accesories, harness, and PCM. I would still like to put an LS1 intake on it, but I'm gonna be patient and find somebody with a takeoff. The throttle body I've got will still work on that right? And I'll need to get a MAF or can these have a Speed Density tune?
Also, haven't I read somewhere that the F-body accessories work better in a 73-87 Chevy? I know the manifolds do.
And does Nelson Performance sell PCMs?
Sorry for all of the questions but I'm new to the LSX world. I've done an LT1 swap in an S-10, so I do know a few things.
Thanks,
Carson

98 fbody exhausts are the tightest to the block and give the most clearance. I've seen Fbody long tube headers in place with a 87 and older truck. Allen sells PCMs. Yes, speed density is possible but you have to go to a tuner to get it done live and in person.

Here's a few pictures so yall have an idea what I'm working with.

Is this an emissions device? If so can I get rid of it? I'm trying to streamline as much as possible.

I found a used LS1 intake and I just wanted to make sure it would fit before I buy it. I know I'll need an F-body water pump, and to modify or change the accessories. Is there any way I can use the same fuel rails and injectors?
I also found a set of F-body manifolds.
Thanks for the help,
Carson
