OK, which bolts must be replaced when reassembling a 5.3? I know the head bolts are stretch bolts, but what about the connecting rods, main caps, etc?

I think it's only the head bolts and main cap bolts. Other than that, I would assume they all could be reused--but with respect to the amount of miles on the motor...
Anybody??
I don't know what has to be replaced but I'd sure do ARP rod bolts and ARP main and head studs while you have the opportunity. Be sure you get a rod bolt stretch gauge to install the rod bolts properly. Head bolts are a must for replacement and the others are for insurance. I've actually never heard to replace the main bolts before but it makes sense.
replace them all.... better safe than sorry IMO
All your "load" bolts are stretch bolts. Head, mains, balancer, and so on. Anything that holds a load. Hope this helps.
Oh yeah, the pulley bolt. Forgot that one. Always replace that one. Be sure you use the GM tightening procedure when you replace it. An impact will work but they say there's a reason for doing it the correct way, that or just buy an ARP pulley bolt so you can re-use it for life. The stock one will eventually fail if you keep reusing it and then its a bitch to remove once the head snaps off of it.
