How much notch does it take for the ls1 a/c to clear the frame on a 91'? Does anyone suggest moving the engine up a little bit to help not make such a big notch? That reminds me i saw a new ford in the shop the other day with the 5.4L. Might as well be working on a van. That engine is way back. Hell my fiance's z-28 is easier to work on than that hunk o junk. It did have a very quiet interior though, if you like that. You can see like 6" of nothing inbetween the engine and radiator. I think ford is starting to copy dodge now.

I don't know how deep you will have to notch the frame but I do know that the further back you can set the engine in the frame, the better your traction and the more balanced your vehicle will be. I winced at moving mine forward 1 inch to clear the alternator but the true consolation was the fact the engine is supposedly about 85 lbs lighter than the LT1 I took out of my 92 C1500 short wide bed extended cab.

That is one hell of a notch. I dont think moving the engine up a bit would help at all. I am not affraid to make a notch like that as long as i box it in but it is pretty damn close to critical areas. Did you move the motor forward or backward to get your notch to line up between the idler arm mounting points and the front crossmember? :burnout:

HOLY SMOKING CHOPSAW BATMAN!!!! That's a huge chunk of missing framus there.

Thats not me... its a truck high performance salvage did... hpsalvage.com. Yea Im considering just getting a corvette motor so I wont have to deal with the notching. hey Greg what does your extended cab run with the ls1?? got any pics?

I don't think it will ever have a 1/4 mile time trial. The truck is a 10" lifted pre-runner. I am in the process of the conversion. I have the motor in and the wiring done but the CPU/ECM was from a Vette so it won't run for but a second. I have to get the ECM reprogrammed with the VATS disabled.
BTW, the Vette, Truck and F-body all locate the a/c unit in the same place so you are screwed unless you do without it or relocate it up high. I am doing without for now but will go up high with it if I get to where I can't take the heat. You can always chop out the chunk of metal like others have but my application will not allow to weaken the frame. I can only imagine what kind of pretzel the frame would look like if you ever bump something with the front bumper.

umm, vette brackets and accessories are in a diff location arent they??? thats what i thought...

the alternator and p/s pump are in a different location. The a/c is in the same from every picture i have seen of them.
