#1. I have a 2001 5.3L and was wondering if the EGR can be removed completely? What I mean by completely is that if I were to buy a set headers I wouldn't need to get them with A.I.R. Is this possible or is my only option the EGR mod?
#2. Another question, is there any proven hp gains from doing this mod?
#3. If I do this mod to my truck will I need LS1Edit to delete it from the pcm or will my truck run fine right after?
you will need edit or you will get a check engine light.
anybody know anybody who makes some EGR block off plates for headers/manifolds...i dont have the tools to make em myself.
I made mine, got me a small piece of sheet metal, some gasket, and drilled the holes to fit, also trimmed the piece of metal to fit on the EGR tube. took maybe an hour to do.
cut the gasket to the size of the metal and add some gasket sealant and wha la.
EGR block-off plate.
cost
sheet metal from lowes----20.00 est
gasket meterial----- 10.00 est
gasket sealant-----4.00 est
total-----34.00
would be a lot cheaper if you can just find a small piece of sheet metal, about an 1/8th inch thick.
that price was when i went to look at getting a piece, but i wound up getting it from work. All i really had to buy was the gasket meterial.
so in essance it cost me 4.00 :thumb:
arizona speed and marine. When my buddie ordered long tubes for a 02 from them they sent him headers for a 01 with the egr stuff blocked off. It was wierd though when i got mine they where just normal didnt have any of that egr crap. I figured he just got rolled

I thought I remembered see a thread about how to close it off. But I think 01Thunder hit it on the head.
You can get the plate and bolt at the dealership. Don't remember the price off hand but it beats making the piece.Quote:

I tried using resistors to trick the computer into thinking the egr was there. Never got that to work and read online that others have tried, i guess ill have to get a tune from nelson one day. Everyone else seems to really love their tune from him. By the way im new to this forum, looks like a great forum. :rock:
Az sells the plates for there headers for around $10.
Thunder-R sells a block off plug for the intake if you decide to go that route :twocents:
