The new Colorado's and Canyon's are piles o' crap and not worth the work in my opinion. The tranny however is a 4L60E and I believe that the rear end is an 8.5"... just like what the current S-10 has. Oh except that they now use drum brakes in back instead of disc's (no I ain't joking). The frames are stiff enough to support the LS1 though... and you will need it cuz that I-5 has less torque then the 4.3L that it replaces. Also, you will want to replace the seats with some race buckets cuz MY GOD DO THE STOCK SEATS SUCK!! Seriously, I sat in one and my back actually began to hurt. Oh yeah, and replace the guage cluster with something custom cuz it looks like a reject from the 80's...... hrm what else... oh yeah, there is one guy that I know of that will try to defy convention and in a few months he is going to start working on turning one of these into an off-road beast as rolling advertisment for his shop.
But generally, they look cool... but it is just a purty shell for something that is a step back from the current S-10 that it is replacing... haha.. and yeah... I just hate 'em.
The S-10s had drum brakes. The only S-series trucks to receive factory discs were the SUVs.
