Diffrent brackets and accessories?

Okay guys I think this is a new topic.
I have a f body LS1. I have sold all the accessories but kept the brakets fro some stupid reason. Anyway I am wanting to accomplish a couple of things.
I am wanting to raise the a/c because it is going in a 1992 chevy truck.
I was going to get street and performance vette kit, but really want to do something else. I have street and performances' LS1 to conventional SBC mountig adapters already on the engine ready to go.

question 1)I want to mount an engine driven air compressor for an air bag setup. I know they make braket kits for the 5.3 and 6.0 engines. Can i use the f body intake and add the complete accessories from a 6.0 or 5.3 engine?

question 2) In addition I would like to mount dual aternators.

I will pay pretty good money if someone can accomplish this for me. I don't mind using a sanden 508 compressor, but would like to get brakets and idlers for everthing. I would like to be able to mount 2 CS144 alternators on this engine if possible.

I have the same setup in my 92 C1500 4X2 I am installing at this time. Just completed making mounting brackets similar to S&P adapters but out of 1/4" steel. I bolted it into the truck tonight. I am using all the accessories from the F-body except the A/C. I will try to keep you informed of what is going on and if I have any problems with the install. I had to relocated the factory tranny crossmember for the auto trans, mine was a 5 speed before. :rock:

Yours will be a little diffrent anyway because yours is 4x4. Where there allocations in the frame for the new x member location or did you drill them?
I have replaced a 5 speed to an auto before and the holes where already in the frame.
Mine is a 5 speed. I am doing my body work, then new rims to accomadate the suspension mods. Then a complete air bag kit with 4 link and new tubular arms etc.
I am going to finish the project by installing the LS1 and I have a complete dash and wiring harness from a 1995 truck that is going in.
Lots of work in this one but it will be nice.

i got the templetes from a member for the plates and I plan on using these to make the plates. How did you do yours?

I measured the distance from the flywheel end of the block to the bolt hole location on the original block and then did the same on the ls1. I then put it into my CAD software and designed exactly what I thought I would need. After a day later I found that the F-body alternator setup won't work in the current configuration, using the mounts from the 92 engine. There is a lot of extra room under the hood and I am considering moving the trans/engine 1" forward to get the room I need to use the F-body brackets. I will work on that tomorrow and let you know how it comes out. :whack:

Okay, moved the motor closer to the radiator by 1" and I have plenty of clearance to use the F-body accessories minus the a/c without cutting anything. See Street and Performance's website for the general design and be sure that the bottom front ls1 engine mount bolt is the one you use to locate the original three bolt engine mount in earlier style engines. Appearantly you have to move the motor for clearance or pay through the nose for relocation brackets for the accessories. The engine/transmission mating point is 1" forward from the original location but it shouldn't hurt the front to rear balance too much since I plan on moving the fuel tank to where the spare tire is mounted.

How much would the a/c interfere if you had not moved the engine? Now i imagine that you have to get a longer driveshaft right? Im sure that is no big deal since you would probably be upgrading the original anyway. :burnout:

The a/c is not going to work in it's stock location. I will have to go to an alternate location probably using street and performance's sanden compressor and mounts to put it up high on the passenger side. The drive shaft will have to be modified no matter what. The truck was a 5-speed previously. I figured 4" off of it before moving it forward 1". Now I assume 3" shorter but I will check that out before taking it to the drive shaft shop.

Does anyone know if the truck accessories will work on the LS1 with the camaro/ vette intake, or do I need the truck intake.
I think that would solve some of our problems and they would be easier and cheaper to locate the brackets and accessories from the late vortec truck engines.

I know all the f-body accessories will fit and work fine except the a/c unit. The a/c unit from the truck setup will not work either so you are not gaining anything going the the truck accessories other than being able to move the engine further back in the chassis. If you want the a/c unit in the stock truck/vette/f-body location, break out the torch, hammer and welder because you have a chore ahead of you. If you are serious about horsepower just kiss the a/c goodbye and shave the weight. I am in the Dallas Texas area and I don't worry about a/c. I only wish the trucks still had wing windows to direct that 106 degree air over me in the summer. :cool:
