LQ9 MILD cam advice?
Looking for some advice for cam selection:
Cam is going into:
• Otherwise stock LQ4/LQ9 w ECM Reprogram
• Stock Truck 4L60E & converter
• Stock truck intake/Throttle Body
• Stock truck exhaust manifolds (no cats with a good 2.5" exhaust)
• 3.42:1 Rear Gears
• Chevelle Convertible will probably weigh 3800 lbs with me in it
When it comes to cams (for street cars) I am one of these guys who tends to believe “less is more”. I want something that sounds a little more aggressive than stock, has a big fat torque curve, and makes the most out of the rest of the combination.
It seems the truck intake shines the most under 5000 RPM, so something with peak hp no higher than 5500-6000 RPM range makes sense to me.
I haven’t seen flow numbers for the LQ9’s 317 heads so I don’t really know how much a cam would need to favor the exhaust side (especially given that I am planning to run truck manifolds). I know there are lots of guys who do custom cams, but most of those seem to work in racing a lot more than street cars.
Options that look interesting:
Lunati VooDoo 60510
Duration @ .050 IN/EX: 212/218;Lift IN/EX: .531"/.531";LSA / ICL: 113/109
Comp Cams XR265HR
Duration @ .050 IN/EX: 212/218;Lift IN/EX: .515"/.522";LSA: 114
Crane Cams?? Maybe call them and get something custom made?
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance for your insight!
