engine shut off
i was going down my street and was in the process of shifting into neutral... i was just rolling like 20 mph.. and i hit a bump.. which made my hand shift into reverse on accident... i herd a loud sharp noise that sounded like my tires chirped. and my engine shut off.... after coming to a stop. i turned my truck back on and drove into my driveway... its not smoking or leaking any oil... do i have anything to worry about?????

I've had that happen with a few vehicles. It never caused a problem although you would think it would. If is is working ok then just don't do it again LOL.

Uh.....WTF??? I am not positive, but I think GM put an "idiot-proof" shift-lockout sensor on the trannys... I am not calling you an idiot, just the situation... And if you are traveling over a specific MPH, it will feel like it goes it and then it gets locked out and will not let it engage until the specific mph is reached... You may have engaged the R gear just for a second and then it jumped out. I'd keep a watch out for tranny fluid leaking from the case... But let the tranny cool down and then go out and start it and drive it around...come to stop--shift to park for a second, then shift it to R...then let it idle back for a few feet. Then stop again and put it back into D and see how everything feels, shifts, etc. You'll know if you have a problem...

I threw mine into park once a little too fast as i was stopping. I got the same high pitch whine then it killed. But all was well and forgot about it until i read your post.
This was about two years ago.
