OK - getting ready for the swap to start tomorrow, and I think I have everything ready.
I got new gaskets (because I am anal): intake, oil pan, timing cover, water pump valley cover, trans input shaft & o-ring.
My question is, did I miss one? Is there a cover on the rear of the engine. I was looking at old posts and thought I saw a vertical alum. cover over the rear main??

Okay, I went and read up and it looks like i need a rear main seal, unless TSP already put it on??
The motor isn't here for me to check until tomorrow. What about this special tool to put the rear main seal on correctly??
Don't everyone jump in all at once.
They might have installed it for you. I've never used a special tool to install one. I just press it in evenly with a large blunt tip punch and tap it gently with a body hammer. The trick is press it in evenly and don't distort the seal or scratch any surface. If you can find a can the same size as the seal that will help too. Also lube inside of the seal where it touches the crank with some engine oil. Same advice with the trans seal but lube it with some tranny fluid.
Gaskets... front and rear covers, valley pan cover, valve covers, front and rear seals, 4 water steam port seals for the heads, head gaskets, water pump seals, oil pan seal, oil cooler adapter gasket that goes to the side of the pan just above the oil filter. Make sure they've installed all the freeze plugs, dogbone oil passageway plug, and transmission guide pins in the back of the block. You may have to pilfer those from your old engine.
