hey guys i am about to buy my converter and i was wondering which is better for my 4l80e

the vig is a large price difference and i was wondering if the quality is there. i willbe running a heads (patriot stg2 ls6) cam forged 6.0 with a big shot of n2o im thinking a 224 224 .595 .595 112 but i am also up for cam suggestions
Depends on your application... is this in a truck you do any towing with at all? Do you plan to lock this up in 3rd at WOT?
PI makes excellent converter. I'd go with them over a Yank in an all out application. If you are planning a built 6.0, cam, and nitrous... I'd look for a stall around 2600-2800rpms. PI's stall higher so I'd consider their 2600rpm for your truck. The weight will make it stall higher, then the big setup of torque from the 6.0 will also THEN that nitrous hit.
Go dual pattern on the cam. 224/230 or so. More exhaust duration for nitrous/turbo/blower is good idea. Helps in scavenging from what I remember. .595 is a TON of lift, excessive IMO. I'd drop to ~.540-.570 tops. Springs will have to be replaced often if you run that much lift you are talking about.
Are you trying to build something that can be driven daily or what?
well it will be driven alot but its not my daily
the heads i am lookiing at seem to flow best arround .600 lift but im not sure
no i dont do any towing (it has no hitch or bumper and sits about 4"from the ground)
will i be able to get a good launch with a 2600 that seems small to me
You do know that flow numbers aren't the only thing that dictates power right? Velocity is more important that total flow IMO. If you are going with stock displacment 6.0, those Stage 2 heads may be ported too much. I'd stay around a 2"-2.02" intake valve no larger, and about a 1.5-1.6" exhaust. You just don't have the displacment for heads of that magnitude.Quote:

Well if the converter is rated at a 2600rpm stall that's approximate. Usually based on a light vehicle weight and moderate power. If you toss in a 2600rpm PI Vig converter behind a heavy truck and with a hot 6.0, it'd probably stall to about 3000rpms. Then with a big hit of nitrous, even more. 3200 or higher is attainable from a hole shot spray.

i have heard the patriot heads are some of the best on the market right now so that what i will probably go with
i may buy an R1 cam off of a guy on ls1tech i think its 232/236 .575/.578 w/114 what do you think?? he only wants 275 for it
Oh so you're gonna do a 408 stroker! Those heads should be okay then. I'd look to see if they are 205-225cc intake runners. Hell I dunno how much those heads cost, but I'd highly consider a set of the new AFR heads. AFR is an awesome head maker...they are the ones I will run on my Ford stroker in my F150.Quote:

Don't overbore any more than necessary. Going from .030 to .060 will weaken the block and gain maybe 6 cubic inches.
That cam would work pretty well in that many cubes. Probably make power to about 5400-5600 peak then have shift points of about 6200-6400.
I am going to do a 408-427 in my F-150. I am gonna use a cam that's about 242/250 .560/.580 114LSA. Should make power right to 6000rpm and just have a monster torque curve too.
they are 1795 from patriot with no core i have found a set i think for 1600 shipped ill see what he said tomarrow (NIB)
the intake runners are 225cc
the valves are 2.02 and 1.57 and a 64.45cc combustion chambers
I am going to be needing a set of pistons to work with that 4.00in crank and 6.125 rods if you can point me in the right direction i would be appreciative
