Hey guys, what is the overall best cam for a 4.8L.
I am getting my income tax back soon, and was looking at a cam for my truck.
So far all I have done to my truck is ASM headers, with full exhaust, UPD intake, and Nelson tune.
I want somthing that will pull pretty much within the whole RPM range, and preferably a strong low-midrange power.
What to you suggest?

I'll be installing my cam next week, its from a 99 SS camaro, I'll let you know how that goes. Are you gonna get a new cam or one off an F-body? Sorry not much info but in a week I should be of some help. :thumb:

I love my cam. You heard it there at Jay's when you were getting your tune straightened out with Allen. I didn't notice to much low end low loss and the mid and high end is greatly improved. Then came the stall which really helped the low. Comp Cam Cams gets my vote!!!!

do you think that would be a good choice with no converter , and maybe one later?

Yeah that one should work great. I don't know of anyone running it but it seems to be a pretty common cam for the truck guys.
What stall do you plan on going with when you do it?
212/218 .522/.529 114 all the way. Might even want to look into the higher .55x/.56x lift version too.Quote:

My 4.8 put 272 to the ground UNTUNED with this cam at 5800 rpm. Probably closer to 300 up above that. EDIT isn't necessary, but I would *highly* recommend it so you can bump the shift points up a bit and make full use of the cam's powerband.
Definitely get pushrods! I also went with the Comp 918s, although I'm sure you could get by with the Z06 springs. I just liked the peace of mind that I got from a spring that was good to .600 lift. :)
My best ET with cam, CAI, e-fans and higher rev limiter was 9.53 @ 75/14/14.77 @ 97.

yea, do one of comps 212/218s
those have proven performance. I've seen a 36hp gain from the 212/218 .558 .563 114LSA. the one scream had also pumps out near 30hp too. both are great for the 4.8/5.3
Is that HP with the 55x/56x or the 522/529? And is that the only mod, aside from the fans that you had to get that RWHP? Can you use the stock springs with the 522/529? Why get the pushrods?Quote:
