Well, a couple of weeks ago, I start feeling that the trans did not make the lock up, but I did not pay much attention to it, few days after that, 3rd had trouble coming in, the delay was so bad, that sometimes bouced the rev limiter (6500), have to ease on the go pedal so 3rd can kick in. A day after that, I had no 3rd and 4th.
Took it to the trans shop and this thing was craked, so we all blame it, changed to the new steel style that replace the aluminum part. Nothing else was compromise, and the 1-2 clutch pack was intact.

Replace the worn discs and cleaned everythig up. Took for a test drive and voila, burn it in a 15miles test, rigth there it felt flat on his face.
Took apart the trans again to find the 3-4 clutch pack burned and this time another thing craked, so I replace the craked one, and the valve that goes into the case that is suppost to make 4th shifts

Clean everything up, replace the valve, the craked piston and the 3-4 clutch pack. Took it for a test drive, now it make all gear changes, lock up, but as soon I give a little gas to it, say 4000 to 5000rpm, 3rd start missing like the first time. The truck pulled real hard in 1st and perfect change to 2nd, as soon as it goes for 3rd, it miss it, bang the rev limiter, and ease on the pedal to grab 3rd, well, this tiem it hold 25miles of testing.
Took out the trans to see no cracked parts whatsoever, but for the first time the Band was smoked.

Now the trans builder told me that he wants to try changing the 3-4 acumulator and try a new drum. No lees to say now we are guessing with no real clue what is causing this fast 3-4 burn up. :bash:
I will really apreciated any help to make my rig haul ass again, in the mean time I can save some money for a Monster or finish line trans
My trans is a 4l60E form a 4wd with a TCI 3500 converter, It had TCI clutch packs, now TCI only1-2, red alto 3-4 still burning, Trans Go HD shift Kit and 2 real big coolers. The oil has not pass 200F and still burn the packs.
Can't afford burning so many discs and the down time :help:

Pay attention to the instruction sheet for the 3-4 input drum.
-
thanks, I'm on the reading

You're not mentioning anything about if he's using the correct clearance on the packs and band.
Is he checking that first THEN soaking clutches?
Endplay/slop?
Load release springs gone?
How's line rise and pressure? Should be what, 90psi at idle then around 270psi WOT or so.
-
Hit man,
I'll check that tomorrow, Greg just send me a instructional sheet on the clearence, so Tomorrow I'll put the trans back together with thos instruction and check the oil pressure.
He soak the clutches already, but never seen him to check clearance!!!!
Thanks for the quotes

Those clearances are for the blue plates. They're really tight tolerances for the 3-4 pack compared to the ATSG manual's specs. Do you or your trans builder have an ATSG manual for the 4L60e or 700r4?
-
yes it does, I almost memorize it, fatter and taller than the Good Lord Book.
But I talked to him a couple of minutes ago, and he told me specs were on target, on each rebuild.
Could anything else cause this....?
I just send my HPtuners cable to Allen for and PRo upgrade, and before that I make a few mods to the tune, cause I was swiming in fiel, 10 and below from 25% TPS up read on the AEM WB.
I also chaged some parameters to the Trans, hope this is not killing it.
For those who have the HPtuners, chime in so I can send u the file so to check the trans mods

Hard to say, but maybe there was some obstruction preventing fluid flow causing abrupt, adverse effects. Dunno.
-
well, today I'll put the pressure gauge to see how's going. It is defenitly Pressure, so any one knows what is the idle pressure and the WOT pressure.
Checking the Web the WOT presure varies min190lbs to 235Lbs
-
Pressure at WOT depends on what boost valve you're running and if you're on EPC or Vac for the line pressure
