Is the transmission range switch required for anything other than reverse lights and Park or Neutral only starting? I am wanting to use linkage to shift my transmission and the bracket won't fit on the shifter shaft with the switch on there....

HPT has an option for trans type. Dunno how the PCM reacts when the signal's not there.

I don't use mine. The Nelson harness doesn't have a connection for it. I'd say it's worthless on a conversion vehicle. I believe there's a setting in HPT to program it out entirely.

The range switch tells the PCM what gear has been selected manually. The PCM needs to see the trans in Park or Neutral to do a crank relearn. You can ground 2 pins on the PCM while doing the relearn. I can't comment as to which pins it is on all PCMs but, typically it is C1Blue pins 32 and 34.
