I've got a question about swapping a 98 4L80-E into my 89 Silverado. The 4L80-E is shifted by a cable, my 89 uses linkage to shift the trasnmission. So I guess my question is how do I set up my truck to shift with a cable OR how do I set up my transmission to shift with the linkage?

Cable driven 4L80E? Where'd you get one of those? My 97 4L80e is fully electronic. That's what the e is all about in the name. You get a kickdown cable if you have a 700r4.
My bad, your PRND321 shift selection is cable driven. Will the shift bracket off the old transmission bolt onto the 4L80e?
-
No, unfortunately it will not. My old transmission was a 700R4... I wonder if a shift bracket from a TH400 or something else will work....
-
It's worth trying. I'm surprised the other won't work on it. :duh:

I heard that the 4L80-E came on the SS454 trucks from 92 until they ceased production, I am not sure when the 4L80-E came in the regular silverados (probably the same year). I am heading to Sacramento to drop off some papers and probably The Bay to pick up some stainless V-Band clamps tomorrow so I will see if I can get the part I need at either place!!!

Check out junk yard row in Ranco Cordova. Never been there my self but I've heard that the place to go. There are a few places that are GM specific.

I should have gone there.... I went to a yard in the Yuba City/Marysville area and the guys there were pricks. First I went in and told them what I need and they looked at me like I didn't know what I was talking about. :bash: Then. once I finally made them understand, the guy said that he would go get me one. Sounds good right? WRONG! I sat there for an hour and a half waiting for this guy to get my part. He helped other people that came in after me, talked on the phone, ate doughnuts, drank sodas, and just sat there. Not once did he even THINK of getting me the part :help: ..... asshole.....
Picking up the V-Bands wasn't any better, and HWY 880 was a nightmare....
Next time I get a chance, I'll go to Sac to pick up this part. :hshake:

It would have been cheaper for you to just go to the stealership for that part.

I just put a 4l80e in my 1990 truck and my old linkage bolted up with minor modifications. The truck origainally had a 700-r4 that then got swappped for a th400 and the as I say the linkage was pretty easy so if you can get the stuff from a th400 it should work. I think.

I got the part from Transmatic in Chico. I got it off of 94 4L80 (I think). I will try putting it on after work, I'll let you guys know the verdict.....
