Okay, I was speaking to someone regarding swapping out my 4L60E for the 4L80E. Aparently, the 4x4 version of the 4L60 and the 4L80 are about the same length (about 1-1.5" diff) and the 1500HD has the 4L80 behind it too.
I was told I need the following for the swap: 4L80 crossmember, trans itself w/ converter, and the flexplate.
Apparently my Autotrac transfer case will bolt up also as the 1500HD uses the same transfercase and the minimal difference in length will be taken up by the slip yolks.
I have the exact info at home and will post it up so it may make more sense.
Thanks!

Hey that is great info. What about the wireing shift linkage and cooling lines?

I'll just repeat what i heard on other forums, don't go off this info 100% but it will start a conversation i'm sure.
The 4l80e will bolt up just fine to the engine, you probably already knew that, i'm sure the case would too,
The 4l60e is supposedly differnt as far as wiring, you'll also have to have your pcm programmed to accept the 4l80e shifting.
again, this is just what i've heard, of course, i've hear ppl say it's a straight bolt in.
Do you do lots of towing with this vehicle or race it? If you do the occasional heavy towing and the occasional run down the track, a built 4l60e will hold up ok, but i hear you, i would want the 80e if i thought it would help me in my 1/4 mile times.
It's heavier and it also has more hp loss. i think the 60e looses about 15-20% and the 80e is around 28%, don't quote me on those numbers, someday when i get my shop, you can count of me doing this swap just to see how much loss is between the two, and doing a real compare on all three intakes.
later,
allen

The same HP loss is also true of the TH350 vs the Th400!!!
