Newbie doing an LS-1 in a '56 short box

Hi All,

I have a '56 short box Chev truck that I already bought a 96 SS LT-1 engine complete for, but I am convinced I need to sell that and get an LS-1 based 6.0L set up from a newer Chev Pickup (the Car Craft article that showed them making 450hp with a cam and headers really did it for me).

Anyway, I will keep looking around the site, but any advice on issues with mounting an LS-1 small block into a Camaro sub frame (I am grafting this on to the existing frame for independent suspension set up - pretty common thing) is greatly appreciated. I am hoping it is a straight bolt in (ha, I love that term 'bolt in').

Any advice is surely appreciated, and glad to be here!!!!!

Welcome&#33; :hshake: I am sure there are some guys on here that have done something similar, so I hope you get some help&#33; :thumb:

As for adding the front end of a Camaro, it should be a straight bolt-in like you mentioned, but I am sure you will have to do some custom fab work of your own to make everything fit and balance out right.

I am also fairly certain that a 6.0L will bolt up the same--given the fact that they didn&#39;t change the mounting points when they switched from the LT-1 to the all-aluminum OHV LS1 in &#39;98. As for the electronics, I hope there are some others on here who have that knowledge in their realm of expertise... :smile:

But what would be EXREMELY badass would be to get a hold of the prized LT-4 from the &#39;97 30th Anniversary Edition :rock: That motor was pretty much a slightly de-tuned Corvette ZR-1 motor wasn&#39;t it? From what I read, when the C4 reign ended, Chevy had some LT-4 motors laying around and decided to spice up the 30th. Chevrolet claimed that the Camaro LT-4 motor pushed out 330 hp, but I heard it that figure was specified before the SS components were added. Sources claimed it to be something more along the lines of 380 hp...

I should have clarified on the Camaro sub frame - it is from a 78 camaro. Nice part is that the frame rails pretty much line right up with the original so you just snip, weld the Camaro sub frame to the bottom of the stubs of the original and voila&#33; - independant suspension, disc brakes, and 3" lower to the ground with lots of aftermarked replacement parts if needed.

My issue is whether or not the engine mounts on the old sub frame are in the correct place for an LS-1? I can certainly move them, but it would be nice...
