I've read quite a few books on exhaust options and it was very in depth. You have to take everything into consideration when determining optimun exhaust size.
But, since we're not that crazy about learning every little detail, I'd say what you have now is a tad too restrictive and I would say a daul exhuast setup would be best , with an xpipe. Plus, the sound factor would be nice.
I think a 3" single pipe would still flow enuff, but most ppl like dual exits.
not sure if it's much help, just helping out.

[HIJACKED] so having dual 2-1/2 inch exhaust is not to big? i have always worried that i went to big.[HIJACKED]
I don't have any actual data that shows it takes hp, but that seems to be the going size for most, that or a nice size single tubing.Quote:

guess that will work for now then, im happy. :) :burnout:
There is actually a pretty good thread over at FSC that I have read once on the exhaust size.....ok found it. This actually can be pretty helpful. Hope it helps.

Put it on the dyno and have them check to see what amount of back pressure you have. Having the exhaust come together with an x-pipe will equalize the exhaust form one side of the motor to the other side, so if you go with a dual exhuast it is a must have. Having a ypipe and a cat back an x pipe isnt needed. I would have the back pressure checked before you went with true duals, you could loose low end power where you really need it. If you are going to go with a SC or better heads then I would set the exhaust up for it now, or you will end up doing it twice.
Thanks guys.
ive always read (2) 2.5" = single 3" not always equal but really cose on close to stock/bolt on vehicles. now with the LS1 ive heard they breather really well, dont know about the variants(4.8, 5.3, etc) but im goin with dual 2.5" magnaflows and probably a h-pie although im not sure. cutouts are a definite as well.
