ok its time to settle this once and for all i want everyones input. with a zo6 cam do you need push rods or do stock work. i have heard yes, no, which is. i know alot
of you guys have them and alot of yall have installed them, so i think putting everyones hollow heads together, will solve this question...lol. im sure its a good idea but im a racer on a tight budget so if i dont need them i really dont wanna spend the money. now totally off the subject, 160 thermo, do i need a tune or can i just put it in as is. i know im gonna need a tune for all this stuff but im waiting untill tax season to do that and might wait till then for the cam just dont know yet. so any input would help. last thing anyone in the houston/pasadena area want to help with the cam and probably head install. it was about the base circle being smaller. ok heres my take, I have the cam, '04 in fact, and on my 99 5.3 i kept the stock rods, no problems at 10k on the cam now. I will say they dont "HAVE" to be replaced, but i will say with any cam swap its a good idea, i was on a tight budget at the time, but I will be swaping them later when I switch my rocker ratio to 1.85. Now, for the other comments.........

'02+ have the smaller base circle if my memory serves me.

'01 is a better cam as it's got a tighter LSA and closer durations...

hmm....Allen recommended the 02 to me over the 01.....i guess cause the 02 up produces better hp #'s. I'd like to see a comparison, i know the 02+ has more lift.

    Here it is again.
    http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/1981/produ...er-Camshaft.htm

New for the 2002 Corvette, the 405hp camshaft for the LS6 engine option. Please note that this cam has approximately a 0.050" smaller base circle than a stock LS1 camshaft. This smaller base circle will require longer pushrods for applications with stock length valves and no milling for the head surface. It is imperative that you check your pushrod length when purchasing this cam. The 2002 Z06 cylinder heads use a longer valve to make-up this difference!

GMperformance says they have to be changed.

Chris when you pull your cam let me now. I want to spec it to see if you got a 01.
It wouldn't be the first time Ive see some get a 01 when they thought they got a 02+.

I'm not pulling the cam, lol, that thing was a b**ch to get in and it aint comin out until a rebuild! We spec'd it before it went in, it was definatley an 02, we even checked the stamping on the end, 02+ LS6 part #. It was a ebay purchase from a guy with an 04 vette, so i had to make sure i got the real deal. I will say however, if I am losing anything from too short of pushrods i cant tell, i will find out when the rods get changed. However when I checked part #'s the rods, rocker arms, and one of the valves all matched between the 5.3 and LS6. I'm definatley not saying I am wrong or right, just going by experience.

So do yoiu think I picked up an extra bit of HP by cutting out my cats and running full dual exhaust? That cuts backpressure alot and thats what the article said helps pick up the cams hp?
