Well I took a gamble and lost. A buddy of mine had bought a 2800 Vigilante(used) some time ago and put it in his 02 Z. He had it in there about a week before his tranny went out. Apparently the converter had been installed wrong according to the dealership. Instead of sending it back to PI, he sent it to BI(?) in Oklahoma and had them flush it, install a new snout and balance it. Before he got it back, he went ahead and bought a Midwest and told me he would sell the converter to me cheap if I wanted it. So I got it and had it installed about two weeks ago. This past Sunday it quick locking up. I ran Atap on it and found out my tranny temps were running around 240 degrees(with a tranny cooler). Then when I would pull up to a stop, the truck would try to chatter and go dead. Now I'm having it pulled out and the stock tc put back in for now. I guess I will send it to PI and have them rebuild it this time. Any ideas on what went wrong with the TC? Thanks for listen.

That's a bummer, i believe there is a clutch type band thingy in there, maybe that went out,
How did his tranny break, did he burn the clutches up, if so, maybe it has material in it.

It's hard to figure out how the converter went on wrong, all the times i put mine on, there was only one way it would fit, and it had to be straight in order for it to line up right and for the bolts to go in. oh well

maybe you can get your money back, hehehe, I got the 2600 yank and i really didn't like how low it stalled anyway, when my trans went, i had it refinned and that increased the stall a little bit, it's a little better

    good luck,

The tranny broke because the tc wasn't install correctly according to the dealer. The tc was flushed so it should have gotten any debri out. I think maybe your right on the money regarding the clutch. It was probably glazed over or something.
I pretty much bought it as is so I knew it was a gamble. My buddy was out like $1800 when it was all said and done. So far with installtion and the converter Im looking at $450.

Yea, I probably should have. But I'll probably get the PI fixed plus the guy doing the work has to finish it up today. That sounds like a decent verter.

Just had a call about this same converter for a 4 wheel drive. Will it work and be worth the cost? He does need to rebuild the transmission. Trans. place said it would not be wise to do this. Thanks for the help again.
