    Question about air conditioning

Hi, does anyone else who has a 2003 silverado with 5.3l engine have AC trouble?

During the summer mine will not cool very well, Dealer tells me that a 30 degree temp drop is working fine (on a 90degree day).

Does the AC blow warm when the vehicle is stopped or in stop and go traffic, but gets colder when the vehicle is at higher speeds? If so, you're fans may not be operating properly or the condenser has problems. Make sure that your radiator and condenser are clean (i.e. no leaves or dead bugs). Any debris will limit airflow, therefore reducing the cooling capabilities of the radiator and condenser. If the AC blows warm at all speeds, then you may need more refridgerant or there are problems elsewhere in the system.

It does not seem to be cold even at driving speeds. I have checked the front for de-bree and there is none. r6z406 mentioned the temp blend door, I have heard of problems before with that from other people. How do I check it? Also I came across some TSB on another Chevy website that says contaminated refrigerant could be a cause (I'll put it up later when i find it again). Would it better to have it "cleaned" through a recycling machine or evacuate it, replace the orifice tube and then charge it?

Make sure your clutch is engaging on the compressor. If it is not then it might be the clutch switch went out which is an easy fix. If that switch went out then it most likely means that your low on refrigerant also.

Yeah my guess was freon, compressor, condenser, or the pressure switch. Could be something simple or something complicated.

Take it to a real shop and not the stealership. You really dont need to run it till its fixed cause you could cause damage to other parts mainly the compressor, which Im sure you know is usually the most expensive to replace.
