Cam recommendation for 6.0L swap. (Allen I would like your input as well)

I am swapping a 6.0L into a 04 RCSB 2wd truck with 5 speed man trans and 3.73 gears. The motor has 10.9:1 compression and 243 casting LS2 heads. I will be running the truck intake manifold and long tube headers. Everything has been purchased except for the cam. Now what I'm looking for a big chubby power band that will extend up to 6200 RPM's if I should so wish. The few cams in mind I had were the

    TR224 on a 114 224/224 .563/.563 on a 114

    Trickflow Stage 1 216/220 .560/.560 on a 114LSA

Ok, so that's more than a "few" cams like I stated earlier but what do you guys think? I'm not looking for a big lopey vibrating truck as this is a daily driver and driven in rush hour traffic a few days a week. I don't want a truck that surges at low RPM's with the clutch engaged (ie idling) since that crap gets annoying in a hurry on a daily driver. I'm also not shooting for any big "dyno queen" type numbers. What I am expecting out of the truck though is that with appropriate tires and good driving, that it should be near or better than a 13.0 second flat 1/4 mile truck. Am I getting my hopes too high? Also, I am not shooting for a dyno queen like stated earlier but do you think I am going to be closing in on the 380 RWHP mark with a high compression mildly cammed 6.0 with good exhaust and tuning? The reason I wanted to ask you Allen is have you ever dyno'd any trucks with a combo similar to what I'm putting together? If so, did the customers ever report back to you how they ran?

    Thumbs up

TrickFlow No 2. Their durations off base circle are great. I use one of their cams in my F150.

I think you guys are kind of missing the point, the reason those cams are listed is because they will not extend beyond 6200 RPM's in a 6.0L. A 6.0 is still just a 6.0. It's not a big block chevy, it's still a 364 cubic inch smallblock. It can only do so much meaning I am just trying to get the fattest power curve possible up to 6200 RPM's (tach doesn't go higher than that anyways) Also, almost more important to me than performance is idle quality. If there's one thing that's annoying to me is a NEW vehicle that hums and rattles because it's loping so bad at idle or the jumping and surging that comes along with a large duration cam. Most of you guys have automatics and will never feel this as your torque converter absorbs a lot of the surging. With a manual trans it's a direct connection to the engine so every little blemish in idle quality is transmitted to the driver. In rush hour traffic for 45 minutes this gets damn annoying. Currently I have a '01 Z06 cam in my 4.8L with a 5 speed and I love it. The only reason for this engine swap is to enhance the current power I have and make better use of larger cubic inches. It's annoying everytime I pull onto the highway I have to floor the 4.8 to get it up to speed, but that's not due to camshaft as much as it is the motor is smaller. The Z06 cam drives like a stock truck until you hit 4K RPM's and then it comes to life. I love it.

Now back to the camshafts, the reason the trickflows are so attractive are the fact that they're only $269.99 and ground for trickflow by lunati. This is a big seller for me as I find it hard to justify spending another $130+ on another makers cam just for a few ponies. One last thing, how much lift can you apply to the stock yellow Z06 springs? My heads came with them and I don't want to upgrade if I don't have to. Trying to keep this on a budget at the same time.

I vote for the Trickflow Stage 2 220/224 .575/.575 on a 112LSA. Best suited cam for what you want to do/accomplish.

just outta curiousity are you gonna run the stock NV3500 or do you have plans to swap to a T56? that trans probably isnt gonna feel the way you think it will at the track even wit a 6.0 infront.

btw i currently have a Thunder Racing 224... when i bought the motor it has a MS3 in it... trust me i regret getting rid of the Magic Stick, i say go big first and be done wit it from experience

Well, I want to run the stock trans as the wife says no money for trucks this year and the 5 speed actually works pretty good with the 4.8 I had previously. Also, people are putting down a lot more power than I am with the 5 speed/blower setups so it should hold just fine. I understand the gear ratios are less than desireable but it's all I can afford for now. I'll be lucky if I get long tube headers so this may potentially be driven 1 summer with manifolds Eeek! Anyone running a cam similar to the stage 2 in a 6.0? I cannot find good soundclips for the life of me.

That NV3500 is going to have problems... Don't surprised when you tear it up once the 6.0L goes in...
