Howdy yall. Me and a buddy recently installed a 3" body lift on his 99-00 GMC 2wd pickup truck. It has the V-6 in it. We had the whole thing done in like 5 hours. But now his air bad light is on and the steering is kinda stiff. We checked the power steering resevoir and it is full. It's not incredibly stiff, but stiff enough to where it won't automatically came all the way back straight after a turn. I think the extension link they gave us is to long cause we literally had to beat it on with a hammer to get it to line up correctly. But why is his air bag light on? We followed the directions to a T. Do yall think it has anything to do with the steering column? It says on the steering shaft that if you mess with it, it does something to the air bag. I've installed a body lift before on a ford and didn't have any of these problems. Thanks for the help. This light has been on for about 3 weeks now and I've run out of ideas.

Check for loose or disconnected electrical connectors. There iare some speed sensors under that truck that might not reach now that you lifted it. you might want to put it on a scanner to find out the air bag code.

I have installed a decent number of body lifts but I haven't done any on the new full sizes. So my best guess would be that your steering shaft is binding up cuz it is at a higher angle now. You could get creative with a file on the firewall mounting holes for the steering shaft, and bring it down a little. As for the air bag, ya probably missed releasing a wire from the frame. More specifically there should be a sensor or two behind your front bumper, probably one connected to each frame horn. They are just these plastic boxes. I would check the wiring to them for damage. Hope that all makes sense.

It all makes perfect sense. The steering has loosened up a little after about 500 miles of driving but it's still a little stiff (far better than what it was). As for the air bag wires, I was very careful not to damage them or anything. I also made sure that as we were lifting the body, that we checked for wires as we went along.

Does it matter that we didn't pull the air bag fuse out like the directions said when we started the lift?

No that doesn't matter. They only tell you too do that to disable them temporarily so you don't accidentaly set them off while you are f'n around with the front end.

I think you are going to have to pull you air bag codes so you know where to start.
