I have a 17inch wheel combo which measures a total diameter of 27 inches. I think that the stock was around 30-34 inches i think. Can the smaller diameter be hurting performance. I thought that it would be better out of the hole and slower on top end? Any suggestions on this?

Decreasing your tire hieght has the same result as installing lower gears. So, yes you will see quicker launches, but that lower tire/gear requires more power up top.

You're right, what kind of problems or concerns are you seeing,

Lighter tire combos can help performance by having a lower unsprung weight.

Yeah thanks for the info! I was riding in my buddy's truck who still has the stock wheels and tires and his truck had a better pull in the freeway speed. It seems that my passing gear was not as strong as his. So what kind of so called tire/gear ratio has it become. My truck has the factry 3:42 rearend. How much lower is it now?

Not much, i'd say not over a 3.90 gear ratio, there's a gear calculator out there somewhere, i'll keep my eye out for it.

    later,

Depends on what the stock tire height was...
If the stock tires were 30" then you went from 3.42 to a 3.80 effective ratio
If they were 32" then effective ratio is about 4.05 (bigger change in tire size)

So is it better to put on an aftermarket tire/wheel package thats the same as the stock diameter, for over all performance?
