    Texas Speed MS3

I'm gonna be getting my hands on an LS1 engine to put into my 68 C10. It has one of these cams installed in it already. Does anybody have any personal knowledge or experience with the TS MS3 cam? TS recommends a 3500-3800 stall converter for it, but this is going in a street cruiser, and I don't want to run that high of a converter. Can I get away with a tighter converter?

I do, however, like the specs on the TS224 cam. What stall would I need with it? Anybody have experience with the TS224?

You can go with a lower stall speed in the verter, you just won't be pulling all the potential from the cam. I'd say a 3000-3400 would be good for a weekend warrior that you still wanna just cruise in. I have no experience with the 224, but I just got a 228 and will be using a 3k stall until i build the funds to get a restalled. I was running a tight 3k with the TR220 behind a 5.3 and it did fine.

    I have done 2 224 cams in 4.8's
one is the TSP224r with a loose 4k stall very fun even in a ECSB on 37" tires, though not too street friendly when to leave a light normal you have to be 25-2700rpm.
the other one was the TR224 with a medium tightness 3200 and its in a RCSB on 33's very street friendly but doesn't have the punch out of the hole which also helps keep down the wheel spin.
If I was to do it again I would do a medium 3600 on the same combo.

Slick, you won't regret getting a 3600 or so stall. That is a great cam that has been proven over and over again.

OK, well let me give you guys a quick rundown on what my plans are. I have a 68 C10 stepside pickup. It currently has a 350/TH350/3.07 gear. Pics are in My Garage. Just to keep things simple and clean, I plan to run a carb, and probably either a 700R4 or Richmond 5speed manual trans. The Richmond has a much lower 1st gear with a 1:1 5th, which means it's designed to be used with higher gears. If I go with the 700R4, though, I'm definetly going to have to change the rear gears. What would I have to put in it with that cam? Would 4.11's be enough?

Also, my truck is more of a cruiser, but I may do some autocrossing with it, which a high stalled converter isn't designed for and I may need as much of the low rpm grunt I can for that.

I know this MS3 cam is going to have a wicked sounding idle, though. I feel like the 224 with the 112 LSA would still have a mean sounding idle, and I could get away with a 2500 stall.

Either way, I'm going to pick up the engine this Saturday. I'll be sure to post pics when I get it home.

My truck has about a 3800 stall and I honestly don't hardly notice it at all. Yes, of course it's different than driving a stock truck but I wouldn't hesitate for a second if I thought I needed to go looser. It's not as big of a deal as people make you think it is. That's a good can so just get a stall to compliment it and you'll be good to go!

    I would run the MS3, some 4.10s or 4.30s, and the 700r4... with a 3600-3800 stall.

i had a loose ass 3k stall with a 224 112 cam and didnt really care too much for it...Sounded like it was going to throw a rod trying to pull a double axle trailer full of fertalizer (sp?) it was revving so high. Cruising was the same way, it would take at least 2800 rpm just to get the truck moving from a red light on flat ground... But that doesnt bother some guys. Im running a 26-2800 tight stall with a 230 111 cam and love the way it drives/pulls/tows. Runs much better than the old set up and is more practical to drive in my opinion. If it was my truck id run the ms3 cam and a tight 32-3400 verter
