    5.7 mild ls1 build help

hi all, names ryan and i am from australia, have a 1990 silverado pick up that is in the process of a body drop and airbags ect... running a ls1 up front, 4l80e and 9" 4.3:1 full floater rear end. now my aim is about 280 to 300kw at the rear wheels, what are some good pistons and rods to run in her? don't really want to spend a fortune if i have to, so far have seen lunati forged pistons at a decent price, as for rods not really sure at what brand to look for, any info on decent affordable products would be great, also is it worth changing the intake manifold? if so what would be a decent affordable manifold to buy?, by the way i will be running either a set of 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" exractors with 3" twin pipes. any help with be great cheers ryan

If you are wanting forged parts go with eagle rods and a wiseco piston and rings, eagle rods are the cheapest and have proven lots of power, wiseco has great piston and ring selection also selections. Why you buy them from is a big part of the price, ive always bought my parts from HK Enterprises here in Houston TX but if you have a local engine builder that can get you these parts try there first. Also stay stock crank, they have seen well over 1khp. On the intake, what heads are you running 243's, or something that flows less? I would look into a ls6 or a ls2 intake manifold or if you can find one of the original fast intakes on ebay that were i think 76 or 78mm. By the way what part of ausi are you from? Ive always wanted to go there if not live there lol

thanks for the replies, Luke im from geelong, which is located about 1 hour away from melbourne, not sure if you have heard of melbourne? 300kw is roughly 400hp green monster! Ok so i wont be buying my parts locally in Australia as they are twice the price down hear!! I have been looking at ebay and so far have found in eagle rods these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Eagle...Q5fAccessories
What are these rods like and also would i get a better price outside of ebay? i am not sure of any american websites apart from ebay i could get these from.

as for pistons i have found these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ls1-l...Q5fCarQ5fParts

    or

As for heads luke i will be running a set of stock heads, unsure of size till i get the motor sorry. But anyways i have found the manifold you speak of, im pretty sure you mean this one correct?

yep thats the manifold, that price is a bit steap imo, ive heard of cheaper used ones on the corvette sites. they might be getting hard to get because they havent made the 78mm in a couple years might have to look into a 90 or 92mm. Those rods are the ones, you might want to look for the ones with the 2000 arp bolts instead of the arp 8740's like that set comes with. Also not 100% sure on piston pin placement of a stock crank application. If i were you i would email Erik at HK Enterprises (i would say call be he is usually to busy to answer) you can tell him what you are looking for and he can set you up with piston, piston rings, rods and all the bearings you will need and you can see about a time to talk to him on the phone, hes usually at the shop untill 1-2am texas time so thats what 4/5pm your time? heres his email. erik@hkracingengines.com you can also talk to him about a custom ground cam. And yes i know where Melbourne is lol its the first place i want to go as soon as im able to visit the country

I would just buy a short block rotating assembly from Erik at HKE in Houston Tx.,,,,
They can make you an economy build forged motor or stroker, an eagle crank build, or the callies crank billet build,or more. I heard a guy from Australia ordered a 1000hp build and Erik built him a 2000hp motor. True story.
