    Cam question

Im getting a Lq9 next month. Wanted to do a cam kit. I just found a local guy who has a 224/224 112lsa TSP cam. Question is, is that a decent cam for the Lq9? Also what would be a good stall with 3.73's. If youve ran the cam before can you tell me what you thought of it. Thanks Ben

when i first did my LQ9 in 06 i had the GT2-5 cam from LPE. its a 222 566 112 single pattern cam. you can search for idle clips on streetfire of it. i used a TB stall which was 2900,LS6 intake, had Mac mids with ORY and flow super 40 out the side backed by 410s. the truck ran decent id say. i ran this for 500 miles. the tune was done by PCM4less and im sure it was a POS. it moved but i dont think it was anything special to be honest. I think the cam was too small IMHO. the cam was orignally bought for the 5.3 but i got a good deal on the LQ9 so i couldnt pass it up. the LQ9 swallowed the cam big time and didnt lope al that much. from there i ditched that setup and was wondering what to do next. i was think Ms3 or TV2. i choose Tv2, i ran 243 heads with a 3800 stall. everything else the same. this setup ran strong but i should of went ms3 and much steeper gears to be honest. if you look at charts the ms3 had better torque numbers then the Tv2. i thought Tv2 cause it was called torquer and i was let down.

if i was ever going to NA 6.0 again for my silverado. it would probably be MS4, LS6 heads, fast 90 with 4k stall and 456 gears.

if i was going to NA 6.0 manual i would have the famous Trex with ls6 heads, fast 90 and 488s.

ppl have good results with smaller cams but i believe larger motors need larger cams

581/581 the truck will be seeing 20-50 miles a week of driving sometimes more. So I dont want a huge cam. I want one with decent street manners.

GenIII street maners are all in the tune. my 408 with the 244/248 could be driven any time at any place with no cam surge or anything. its the tune, i have a weak ass 4.8 with a 230/236 and if you drove it you would think it was stock cause of the time it takes to dial in a tune.

the difference in manners of a big cam and stock cam is who tuned it. a trex can be driven daily....granted bigger cams do lose some power but driviablity is there with right tune. anyone who disagress hasnt had a dial'd in tune.

a mailorder tune will never behave the same as a "livetune" match stall to peak torque but most dont want to live with what is needed so they down grade stall size and then later complain why they dont launch as they need to
