All of the pcm's i've checked for 99-00 Y/body, F/body, Tk. 4.8 5.3 6.0 all have the same serv#, and hdw#. Do they all have the same flash program? If not is there any advantage to useing, say, a Y/body ls1 vin. flash to run the 5.3 in my 70 chevy tk. (with the vats, cats, egr, and canister purge scrubed). I probably should just get a tune, but I kinda like the idea of maybe stealing some performance from the GENERAL of MOTORS.

They all have different flash programs. I think you would run into problems with a flash that was for a different displacement or different size injectiors, cam ect. You would do best with a custom tune and eliminate all the extras, that is what I did. BTW that engine fits real well, looks better than mine.

Thanks, man. I must have too much time for mental masterbation. I wonder if an ol' geezer like me could learn to use ls1 edit? I've got so many parts layin around and so many things I want to try I can't possibly buy a tune every time I change something. This thing is as revalutionary as the old small block was in the 60's just gotta learn how.

I think there is a support forum for edit. I'm sure you can learn anything you set your mind to. As far as deleting some unused things like VATS, EGR, ect I think it is just a matter of checking a box and uploading to the PCM thru the ALDL port. I just have Allen do all my programing, then I don't have to clutter my brain with a bunch of new stuff, have a laptop, buy more programs ect.

Allen does do mail order tuning ... if I remember right, once you order his, he will give you reasonable updates too, meaning if you stick a cam in it, he will send you an updated file, but I think if you go wild with it, like wanting to spray it or blow it, he will charge extra for. Maybe he or GMC can slarfiy that.

EDIT .... where do I start. Carputing is greedy! If I were you I would look into HPtuners software ( www.hotuners.com ). Carputing (EDIT's maker) charges for EVERYTHING, and charges dearly at that. Support is a bare minimun, although I do have to give credit for one time when I needed an update BAD, he was very prompt in getting that out to me, but other than that, support and such is not near what it could be. HOtuners seems to care a lot about the customers. There is a lot of info on EDIT over at ls1tech.com too. HOTuners and EDIT are a lot alike, they are close enough alike, you can get the general idea of what's going on with what tables and you will know both. If you like doing things yourself, EDIT is nice to have, but some just prefer to have someone else do it for them, which is where Allen comes in.

BTW ... that was a very clean looking engine bay! I really liked that. Do you have any other pictures of it?
