Ok, I've been researching this topic and I hope someone chimes in to add to it or debate it.
Some ppl seem to think that zeroing the shift time values within ls1edit will cause problems in the transmission. The theory is, if there is no shift time delay, then both soleniods will be "turned on" at the same time, causing two different gears to be engaged at the same time. This sounds bad, but wait.
I was just tuning some 03 and a 04 SS truck pcms and I was looking at how GM is setting that table up. They actually ZEROED out the 3-4 shift delay and they decrease the time as torque/power/tps go up. I don't always agree with GM and their tuning practices , but I will stick with one thing they do, they detuned the **** out of these trucks. And, if GM thought it would cause problems or make for a harsh ride , I know they wouldn't of zeroed that row out. Hell they would make it shift as slow and soft as possible, lol.

So has anybody else heard or think different, if so post it, yo, i'd like some input,

thanks,

allen

JMO but I don't think the tranny can react as fast as the electronics, so even if both soleniods were on at the same time for a fraction of a second it should cause no harm. I'm sure GM is trying to extend the life of their trannies and I would think shortening shift times would help, then add in a bit of TM and you will soften the shifts back up.

I agree, mechanicals are always slower than electronics.
So, if one soleniod turned off and the othe turned on, the mechanicals would still have a delay.

thanks for the input,

allen

I have had mine zeroed out for some time now and it dosnt seem to be having any adverse effects. Also, every fbod file I have looked at has been zeroed out in stock form.

Slow shifts cause heat buildup and heat = bad for the trans...so I'd think you'd want it to shift as quick as possible.

Have you tried playing with the shift times to see if it adds to harshness of them?

Wouldn't shift delay be having each gear on at once? Thus no shift delay meaning faster shifts? Thats how you get soft shifts as they overlap.

I've played with shift times a bit. Haven't been able to make it shift faster, but tranny is still stock. Likely lowering the shift times has more effect with a shift kit... Same argument made above - the hydraulic circuits and mechanical parts can only move so fast.

I was doing some reading on the abuse mod over on ls1tech. I came across a thread about this table. Someone in there suggested that the shift time table may be connected with the spark retard limit on the Ignition tab. They mentioned something like the values in there are what tell the PCM to use for timing during the shift and the shift time tables tell the PCM how long to use the timing in this table.

I 0'ed out the retard limit table and am not seeing any drop in timing when the truck shifts (slipping band goes from it's slipping to oh **** when this happened). I also removed all of torque management at the same time too.
